Presentation of the open call for the design of a temporary pavilion in San Sebastián

• This Thursday, 30 March, at 12 noon, the rules of the open call launched by TAC! Festival of Urban Architecture will be presented.
• The temporary pavilion will be installed in Donostia-San Sebastián next October as part of the Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country.
• The call is aimed at architecture professionals up to 45 years of age.

TAC! Festival of Urban Architecture will turn San Sebastian and València, the cities chosen as venues, into sites for innovation and experimentation in public space in its second edition. It will be based on the construction of two temporary pavilions -one in Sagüés (San Sebastián) and the other in Plaza Músico López-Chávarri (València)- by architecture professionals up to 45 years of age. The pavilions will be chosen through an open call until 12 May.

The call for the pavilion in San Sebastian, which will form part of this fourth edition of the Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country, will be presented this Thursday, 30 March, from 12 noon at the Basque Country Institute of Architecture. This session, aimed at deepening the rules and resolving doubts of those interested in presenting their projects, will be attended by the following participants: José Ángel Medina, director of the Basque Country Institute of Architecture; Pablo García Astrain, director of Housing, Land and Architecture of the Basque Government; Nuria Matarredona, director general of the Urban Agenda and Architecture of MITMA; and Javier Peña, artistic director of TAC! Festival.

This will be followed by a round table discussion on the themes of the festival, with the participation of Pablo García Astrain, Nuria Matarredona, Javier Peña, María Arana (curator of the Mugak/ Biennial) and Xabier Pérez de Arenaza (Habic). The aim is to bring the framework of this event closer, which through meetings and cultural and leisure activities around the pavilions, will open up a reflection on the role of architecture in the challenges facing the urban environment in the current context of climate emergency.

In this sense, Donostia proposes to explore the theme defined for the fourth edition of Mugak/, 'Rebuild, reinhabit, rethink'. All this, in the midst of the emergence of organisations, companies, institutions, collectives, architecture studios and new talents, which propose the need to understand the design of spaces in terms of sustainability, inclusivity and care for the environment.
