Talks

Opening of the pavilion Etxenoi

The opening of the pavilion Etxenoi in Bilbao will be accompanied by a roundtable discussion featuring the three teams awarded in the Onsite Mugak/ Bilbao competition. This event will offer a collective reflection on the role of architecture in shaping contemporary utopias, in line with the central theme of this fifth edition of the Biennial — “Castillos en el aire o cómo construir la utopía hoy” (“Castles in the Air, or How to Build Utopia Today”). The participating teams will present their proposals and share their visions on contemporary dwelling, public space, and the transformative potential of architectural design.
Participants:

  • Jaime Gutiérrez and Itziar Molinero, (AMA Architectural Office), authors of the pavilion Etxenoi and first prize winners
  • Cristina Acha and Miguel Zaballa (acha zaballa arquitectos), special mention

The pavilion Etxenoi —which can be interpreted as “the home of all”— is conceived as an installation that invites visitors to imagine new forms of urban coexistence. Moving away from a traditional idea of domestic space, it proposes a vision of dwelling rooted in the collective, the communal, and the inclusive. The three awarded proposals explore, from different perspectives, how architecture can generate spaces that foster mutual care, sustainability, and a sense of belonging, turning the pavilion into a place of encounter and shared reflection.
