AMA Architectural Office

AMA (Architectural Office) is an architecture studio based in the Basque Country, founded by Itziar Molinero Miranda (Donostia, 1994) and Jaime Gutierrez Armendariz (Bilbao, 1994). Both are architects graduated from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Basque Country (ETSAE-UPV/EHU) and hold a Master’s Degree in Architecture (Máster Habilitante) from ETSAV-UPC. Later, Jaime completed a Master’s in Advanced Architecture at ETSAB (UPC), and both pursued a Master’s in Public Housing at UPV/EHU.
Their professional careers began in Barcelona, where they collaborated with several studios such as Udeu, Anna & Eugeni Bach, MiM arquitectes, Ida, and López Rivera. In 2023, they returned to the Basque Country and established their own practice under the name AMA—an acronym formed from their maternal surnames, which also means “mother” in Basque.
Since its founding, the studio has focused on combining architectural practice with research, blurring the boundaries between the two. Their approach is transversal and interdisciplinary, with attention to the domestic scale, archetypal references, and timeless solutions. Their work seeks to provide formal responses to everyday issues. The practice includes texts, ephemeral interventions, artistic pieces, and architectural works—all developed with the same level of involvement, often in collaboration with other architects and artists.
