From Form to Space. The Utopian Architectures of Oteiza and Basterretxea

Session led by Emma López Bahut. Presented and moderated by J.P. Huercanos, Deputy Director of the Oteiza Museum. (Spanish)
This session will explore the approaches to architecture developed by the artists Jorge Oteiza and Néstor Basterretxea (whose centenary is celebrated in 2024), in an effort to examine how architecture can be approached from artistic and non-disciplinary positions. It will analyze their interventions in the urban realm through concepts such as “space” in the case of Oteiza and “form” in that of Basterretxea. Their work—often unrealized or left unexecuted—defined the most utopian and idealistic territory of architectural history in the Basque Country during the second half of the 20th century.
