Emma López Bahut

Emma López Bahut is a Professor at the School of Architecture of A Coruña, in the Department of Architectural Design since 2009. She holds a degree in Architecture from the School of Architecture of Madrid (2002), a Master’s in Architectural Design from the University of Navarra (2004), and a PhD in Architecture from the University of A Coruña (2013). Her research follows two main lines: “Space, Art, and Architecture,” in which her book Jorge Oteiza and the Architectural: From the Mass-Statue to Urban Space 1948–60 (2016) stands out. The book was shortlisted for the FAD Awards for Thought and Criticism (2017) and the IV Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (2018). Her second line of research explores architectural design processes from a gender perspective and bottom-up methodologies. She has published “Landscape as the Spatial Materialisation of Democracy in Marinaleda, Spain” in Defining Landscape Democracy: A Path to Spatial Justice (2018), and more recently “Pascuala Campos de Michelena: Feminism and Identity in the Domestic Space” in Women and Architecture in a Transitioning Spain, 1962–1999 (2025). She has served as associate editor at VLC Arquitectura Research since 2022 and previously at BAc Boletín Académico (2014–2020). Since 2022, she has also directed the digital editorial project Arquitecturas Procesadas.
