Raphaël Ménard

Raphaël Ménard (Paris, 1974) is an architect and civil engineer. His career lies at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and ecological transition. He began his professional path at the RFR studio (Peter Rice, Martin Francis, Ian Ritchie), taking part in projects such as the Simone de Beauvoir footbridge and the roof of the Strasbourg railway station. In 2003, he founded Elioth, a pioneering firm in environmental innovation, later integrated into Egis. In 2014, he created 169‑architecture, focused on integrating renewable energies and other energy devices into urban environments. Since 2018, he has chaired AREP (a subsidiary of SNCF), where he promotes architecture and infrastructure geared towards decarbonisation. He holds a PhD in architecture from ENSA Paris-Malaquais, where he defended the thesis Energy, Matter, Architecture (2018). He also teaches at ENSA Marne-la-Vallée and has been a visiting professor at EPFL. As a researcher, he has published several works on architecture, energy, and matter, including Faire et refaire du verre (2018) and L'invention de la gare post-carbone (2021). In 2023, he was the curator of the exhibition “Énergies légères”, held at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal and now on display at Mugak.
