Sebastián Bayo Monjas

Sebastián Bayo Monjas (Madrid, 1990) is an architect and visual artist. He grew up in Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he had his first contact with the art world at the School of Arts and Crafts and at the Montehermoso Cultural Center. In 2008 he moved to Madrid to study Architecture at the CEU San Pablo University, where he graduated with the Extraordinary Prize of his class. During his studies he co-founded the collective Micras, from which he develops installations and performances focused on the sensitive and corporal dimension of architectural space. He also collaborates with artists such as Luis Úrculo, initiating his interdisciplinary approach between art and architecture.
After finishing his studies, he works in London as an architect in the studio Tonkin Liu Architects, and it is there where he begins his artistic exhibition career in 2016, with the exhibition “Expressions” at the Crown House Gallery. Upon his return to Spain he begins a sustained production that balances his professional facet as an architect with his artistic practice, which he complements with studies of Higher Degree in Sculptural Techniques at the School of Art La Palma.
His most recent artistic projects include the proposal UTOPÍA, prohibido el paso, winner of the onsite competition Mugak, in the framework of the 5th Biennial of Architecture of Euskadi, as well as the solo exhibition “Márgenes” (2025) at the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Vitoria-Gasteiz, and his participation in the group show “Stop Drawing” at the MAXXI Museum in Rome, in collaboration with the designer and artist Raquel Buj. He also collaborated with Raquel Buj during his stay at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome in 2023. In 2024 he was a finalist in the AD Creators Awards, and was a winner in the call “Thinking the City” (AUR platform) with his work “Anthropocene”. In 2022 he held the solo exhibitions “Escombros” at the exhibition hall of the Escuela de Arte La Palma in Madrid, and “Crap” at the White Lab gallery.
Sebastián currently directs the design studio Nooba and collaborates as project coordinator of the workshop Métrica Mínima, while continuing to develop a coherent and expanded work in the margins between art, design and architecture.

Since 2024 he complements his professional and artistic activity with teaching, giving classes at the universities UFM (Universidad Francisco Marroquín) and MSA (Munster School of Architecture).
