Opening of the installation UTOPÍA: PROHIBIDO EL PASO

The opening of the installation UTOPÍA: PROHIBIDO EL PASO in Vitoria-Gasteiz will include a roundtable discussion with the three teams awarded in the Onsite Mugak/ Vitoria-Gasteiz competition. The session will address the concept of utopia from the perspectives of architecture and urban art, in connection with the main theme of the Biennial — “Castillos en el aire o cómo construir la utopía hoy” (“Castles in the Air, or How to Build Utopia Today”). The teams will present their proposals and reflect on public space, boundaries, and the possibilities of reimagining the city through symbolic interventions.
Participants:

  • Sebastián Bayo Monjas, author of the installation UTOPÍA: PROHIBIDO EL PASO and first prize winner
  • Furii Studio + Jonas Klaassen, second prize
  • Hue Studio, special mention

The installation UTOPÍA: PROHIBIDO EL PASO is conceived as a critical intervention in the form of a wall that directly challenges those who move through public space. Through a physical and symbolic barrier, the proposal invites us to question the visible and invisible boundaries that shape our access to the urban environment and to imagine new possibilities for disruption, openness, and transformation. Rather than offering definitive answers, the installation functions as a provocative device that sparks dialogue around what is forbidden, what is shared, and what is still possible.
