Miriam Varela Alonso

She graduated in Architecture at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the University of the Basque Country in 2005 and obtained her PhD in Architecture with the highest honours from same University in 2017, with a dissertation entitled “Ocharcoaga. El polígono de las flores amarillas” [Ocharcoaga: the industrial site of the yellow flowers]. Currently, she keeps on researching housing and urban regeneration in residential sites built in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Her project “Otxar Active Frontage” has received the Basque Government Grant for the Development of Innovative Projects on Urban Habitat. She is a founding partner of XLark - architecture and urban planning studio Anton Pagola and associates -, with which she develops architecture, urban planning, landscaping and design projects since 2006. She was an associate professor at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the University of the Basque Country ETSA UPV, teaching Projects I (2006-2010).
