Rules of the Off Mugak/ call

Would you like your activities and programming to form part of the Mugak/ Biennial programme?

The Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/ moves forward to its fourth edition in 2023, which consolidates as one of the most important architectural appointments of Atlantic Europe. In 2023, it digs deeply into the ambition of being an open space, as a result of the cooperation of different agents, and become a meeting point with the citizenry. The goal is to highlight the importance of architecture as an element that is the backbone of the quality of the inhabited environment.

At this year’s edition, Mugak/ focuses on the motto ‘rebuild, reinhabit, rethink’. Therefore, the Biennial is introduced as a cultural infrastructure opened to the citizens and the group of actors that participate in urban life, to generate conversation and reflections that connect with the debates that are happening globally.

Off Mugak/ is the programme that channels the participation of actors who wish to contribute to this fourth edition of Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/.

Through the Off Mugak/ announcement, activities and projects to be scheduled in the Basque Country during the months of October and November 2023 will be eligible to be part of the programme of the fourth edition of the Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/.

 

RULES

Who:

Any entity and/or natural person from the national and international sphere who is developing an initiative, project or programme and wishes to carry it out or show it within the framework of the fourth edition of the Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/ (hereafter, the Biennial or Mugak/).

What:

Presentations of projects, research, talks, workshops, visits, publications, exhibitions or any activity open to the public and free of charge.

These initiatives must be financed, managed and produced by the entities applying for this call.

In addition, their relationship with the theme proposed for this fourth edition of Mugak/, ' ‘rebuild, reinhabit, rethink’, must be properly justified.

When:

The initiatives will have to be programmed in the months of October and November 2023, in coordination with the Biennial, on the following dates* depending on the chosen city:

  • 11 October-29 October: Donostia-San Sebastian.
  • 30 October-5 November: Vitoria-Gasteiz
  • 6 November-18 November: Bilbao
  • 6 November-23 November: Donostia-San Sebastián

* In case the proposed date is previously booked, the Biennial team will look for alternative dates to reschedule the activity.

Where:

The projects or activities presented will preferably take place in one of the capitals of Euskadi (Bilbao, Donostia-San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz).

Confirmation of the venue will be assessed.

The Biennial may propose as a place to hold any of the pavilions or headquarters where it will develop its own programme.

Requirements:

The projects, programmes and activities must be managed and produced autonomously in their entirety by their promoters. The total responsibility for the activity will be borne by the applicant, as well as any technical, budgetary or permit requirements that the activity may demand.

Selection criteria:

Relationship with the framework for reflection, quality of the proposal, experience of the promoter, degree of development, collaborating entities, communicative capacity, venue and date.

Deadlines:

The deadline for submitting your proposal will be 10th of July (inclusive).
