Dream Embroidery – Collective Embroidery Workshop

Dream Embroidery is a collective embroidery workshop organized by Izaskun Chinchilla as part of the Mugak/2025 International Architecture Biennial.
Over the course of a full day, two invited artists will share their experiences and guide participants in creating embroidered pieces that reflect their ideas about the city, memory, and utopia through a feminine lens.
The workshop invites people of all ages to reflect and express themselves through embroidery, creating a space for shared care and symbolic action. The embroidered works will become part of a growing collective installation that will continue to evolve throughout the exhibition.
The activity is divided into four sessions of 2.5 hours each, taking place throughout the day:
• Session 1: 10:00–12:30
• Session 2: 13:00–15:30
• Session 3: 16:00–18:30
• Session 4: 19:00–21:30
Each session includes:
• Presentation by the guest artist (approx. 30 min)
She will share her artistic journey, her relationship with embroidery, and the themes that inspire her work.
• Participatory embroidery workshop (2 h)
An open space where participants can create their own embroidered pieces with guidance and support.
Participants may attend one or several sessions. No previous experience is required, and all materials will be provided on site.
Throughout the activity, participants will be invited to embroider their vision of a utopian city, reflecting on the roles of children, the elderly, and especially women—groups that are often marginalized in urban planning processes. This collective creation will encourage the inclusion of personal and political messages, which will be integrated into the pavilion’s structure using hoops and magnets, generating a continuously growing visual dialogue. During the exhibition, additional embroidered contributions will be welcomed to expand the installation. Later, these pieces may be displayed on balconies and in other public spaces to extend their impact within the community.
The work of the guest activists, embroiderers, and artisans is not only of great artistic and social value, but also helps to strengthen a natural bridge between cultures—aligning with the spirit of the Mugak/ Biennial.
