Workshops

Architecture without building: installation & performance in Vitoria

11:00 | Architecture without building workshop for adult and family audiences next to the Biennial Pavilion (Led by Maushaus)
In this activity, an ephemeral structure made of hoops will be constructed, following the spirit of Yona Friedman’s utopian projects such as Architecture without building or Museum without building.
This action reinterprets Friedman’s idea that architecture must be mobile and adaptable to the uses—artistic or otherwise—of its inhabitants.
This workshop, designed in collaboration with members of the No Man’s Land Foundation, will operate on two different scales. In the first part, at a smaller scale, we will reflect on possible ways humans can inhabit space freely. Later, scaling up the construction, participants will inhabit the spaces they have created.
12:30 | Interpretation of the resulting structure by the company Twomuch

“Architecture without Building” is an initiative developed in close collaboration with the No Man's Land association. It is inspired by the work and thought of Yona Friedman, and aims to highlight the relevance of utopian thinking in the 21st century as a means to advance the understanding, debate, and design of inhabited territory.
The program consists of a series of actions linked to the three ephemeral pavilions of the Biennial. Through three workshops, the initiative will introduce adult and family audiences to the richness of Friedman’s ideas and work.
In parallel, there will be interviews, talks, and participatory debates open to the general public, promoting collective exchange with members of the No Man’s Land Foundation.
Each of the three workshops will include the participation of an artist whose perspective is not strictly architectural—for example, in fields such as dance, music, or performance—thus expanding the scope and resonance of the proposal.
