Architect and PhD from the University of Navarra. Master of Arts (Oxford Brookes), Master of Sciences (Oxford University). Since 1982 he teaches at the School of Architecture of San Sebastián, where he is Professor of Architectural Composition, since 1993. Since 1985 he has worked as an architect with Iñigo Saloña. His works have won several awards, including: the Manzano Martos Monument Restoration Award, in 2014, awarded by the Driehaus Foundation (Chicago): in 2003 the New Urbanism Charter Award (San Francisco); in 1992 and 1995 the European Prize for the Reconstruction of the City, granted by the Foundation for Architecture (Brussels). He has been Guest Professor of the Technological Institute of Monterrey; Visiting professor at the University of Miami and the British Academy of Rome. Visiting scholar of the John Paul Getty Foundation in Los Angeles.

He has been Dean of the School of Architecture of the University of Miami. He is the founder of the bilingual four-monthly magazine (Spanish and English) Compoición Arquitectónica-Art & Architecture. Author of sixteen books and more than 44 book chapters. He is president of INTBAU-Spain (International Network of Architecture of Traditional Buildings and Urbanism). He currently directs the DPArquitectura magazine.
