Jesús Álvarez Gutiérrez


Mexico City.
Jesús Álvarez is an architect from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos, and holds a Master’s degree in Rural Development from the Metropolitan Autonomous University – Xochimilco.
He has delivered lectures and workshops both nationally and internationally on a variety of topics related to traditional construction systems from the perspective of constructive sovereignty, employing participatory methodologies.
He has substantial experience in the implementation of participatory processes aimed at the recovery and reinforcement of traditional construction systems in post-disaster recovery and reconstruction contexts in various rural regions of Mexico, within the framework of Social Production and Management of Habitat (PyGSH).
Since 2014, he has been a member of Cooperación Comunitaria, where he serves as Coordinator of Construction Processes, designing and developing the operational strategies implemented in the field.
He has published articles at both national and international levels, within the networks to which Cooperación Comunitaria belongs—such as the Ibero-American Network PROTERRA.
For its comprehensive post-disaster reconstruction work, Cooperación Comunitaria has received several prestigious awards, including:
• Transformative Cities Award, in the Housing Category (2019), granted by the Transnational Institute, Amsterdam.
• Social Production of Habitat Award (2017), Latin America.
• Green Star Awards (2017), granted by UNEP and OCHA of the United Nations.
