Ramón Zallo

Ramón Zallo Elgezabal is an Emeritus Professor at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) who has taught generations of journalists and communication professionals. He holds degrees in Law and Economics and a PhD in Information Sciences. His expertise lies in the structure, economy, and policies of the audiovisual, cultural, and communication sectors. He has authored numerous books, including The Economy of Communication and Culture (1987), Structures of Communication and Culture: Policies for the Digital Era (2011), and Trends in Communication: Digital Culture and Power (2016). In the cultural sphere, he published The Basque People Today: Culture, History, and Society in the Era of Diversity and Knowledge (2007), which was translated into four languages. He served as Cultural Advisor to the Basque Government on communication, audiovisual, and cultural matters between 2002 and 2009. On territorial economics, his recent publications include The Economic Decline of Busturialdea–Urdaibai: Dilemmas and Proposals (2021) and its sequel An Eco-Social Economic Development for Busturialdea–Urdaibai (2024), both published by Gernika Gogoratuz.
