Federico Bilò

Federico Bilò (1965) graduated in Architecture in Rome in 1990. He holds a PhD and is a Full Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at the Department of Architecture in Pescara. In the 1990s, he studied the work of Team 10, the hybrid landscape of Adriatic coastal urbanization, and the architectural legacy of Costantino Dardi.
Since 2001, his research has focused on Dutch and Brazilian architecture, the initiatives of Adriano Olivetti, and above all, the work of Giancarlo De Carlo. He was co-curator of the Italian Pavilion section dedicated to Adriano Olivetti at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2012. Since 1992, he has been a founding member of the GAP AA studio in Rome, where he has carried out much of his architectural work. His current research explores the relationship between architecture and ethnographic practices.
His major publications include Tessiture dello spazio. Tre progetti di Giancarlo De Carlo; Matera e Adriano Olivetti. Testimonianze su un’idea per il riscatto del Mezzogiorno, co-authored with Ettore Vadini; Le inchieste etnografiche di Pagano; and Zodiac 1957–1973. Una storia italiana, co-authored with Aldo Aymonino. He has also curated exhibitions such as Letture Incrociate. C’è qualcosa di nuovo e attuale nel progetto culturale della Tendenza? and Il cielo in trentatré stanze, with Riccardo Palma.
His most recent publication is Tre desideri. Una fiaba sull’architettura in forma di dialogo, in which he reflects on some of the most pressing questions in contemporary architectural practice.
