Cristina Díaz Moreno & Efrén Gª Grinda

Cristina Díaz Moreno and Efrén García Grinda are the directors and founders of the architecture studio amid.cero9. Founded in 1997 as a collaborative platform to investigate the intersections between architecture, culture and nature, amid.cero9 has evolved into a research-based design practice focused on contemporary urban, technological and cultural uncertainties. Intensely committed to developing methodological disciplinary processes, amid.cero9's projects combine radical aesthetics, constructive precision and conceptual clarity, and uncover the specific opportunities and concrete nature of each context, cultivating an approach to the contemporary notion of environment that embraces sociology, technology, design and politics.

With extensive academic experience, they are professors and directors of studio diazmoreno garciagrinda at the IoA at die Angewandte, Vienna, succeeding Zaha Hadid and Kazuyo Sejima as directors of Architekturentwurf 1. They have been Visiting Professors at SoA Princeton Universtity, GSD Harvard University, IKA Akademie der Bildenden Künste Vienna, SAC Städlschule Frankfürt or AAP Cornell University, and Unit Masters of Diploma at the Architectural Association in London for almost ten years. Their work is part of the Permanent Collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and has been exhibited several times at the Biennale di Architettura di Venezia, both in the Official Section and in different national pavilions. Their projects and writings from their first fifteen years were documented in 2014 in a publication entitled Third Natures, a Micropedia and an exhibition at the AA, London, and in 2019 in a solo show entitled Vaults Beds Gardens at SoA Princeton University, and have been collected several times in issues of El Croquis, most recently in the monographic volume on their work, nº184.
