Javier González de Durana

Javier González de Durana. Graduated in Philosophy and Letters in 1974 from the University of Deusto, with a doctorate from the Complutense University. Adviser on fine art in architectural and monumental intervention and conservation processes, and adviser on fine art in the Basque government's culture department from 1982 to 1992. Permanent lecturer in Contemporary History at the University of the Basque Country since 1986. Member of the board of patrons of the Bilbao museum of fine art between 1985 and 2002. Director of the REKALDE gallery in Bilbao between 1992 and 2002. Member of the board of directors of the Guggenheim Bilbao consortium between 1992 and 1998. Adviser on acquisition policy at the Guggenheim Bilbao between 1993 and 1997. Director of ARTIUM Basque contemporary arts centre/museum in Vitoria-Gasteiz between 2002 and 2008. Artistic director of the arts centre TEA Tenerife between 2008 and 2011. Director general of Cristóbal Balenciaga Fundazioa (Getaria, Gipuzkoa) from August 2011 and January 2014. Since 1995 he has been a corresponding member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Madrid). Since 2012 he has sat on the board of patrons of the Ortega Muñoz Foundation, based in Mérida. Since 2013 he has been a member of the Royal Basque Society of the Friends of the Country (Álava Commission). Since 2013 he has been an outside corresponding member of the San Miguel Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts (Tenerife). Since 2018 he has been a member of the culture committee of the Tenerife college of architects.
