The Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/ exceeds 90,000 participants in its fourth edition

The Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/ has bid farewell to its fourth edition with a hundred or so activities that have attracted more than 90,000 people. Held from 25 October to 24 November, promoted by the Department of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport of the Basque Government and curated by the architect María Arana, Mugak/ has once again managed to offer a wide-ranging programme that has enabled the general public to enjoy architecture as another cultural asset.

The Basque Country Architecture Institute and the Arc en Rêve centre in Bordeaux create the European Collective Housing Award

Collective housing in Europe is a housing model that involves a domestic and community culture; a good that in turn marks the identity of the entire continent. It is also a social and cultural integrating element. In order to highlight its value, the collaboration between the Basque Country Architecture Institute and the Arc en Rêve architecture centre in Bordeaux has given rise to the European Collective Housing Award, an international award that will seek to reward residential building developments.

The exhibition 'The Immobile City. Oteiza in Bilbao' is now open

In 1994, the artist Jorge Oteiza carried out a project in Arteleku with a group of students who together imagined the future of Zorrozaurre, in Bilbao. 30 years later, two of those students have curated an exhibition that takes up that project: 'The immobile city. Oteiza in Bilbao' has now opened its doors.

The tour of the past, present and future of the Bilbao estuary is now available.

On 7 November, the programme began as part of the project presented by Bilbao Metrópoli-30 at this Mugak/ Biennial. Under the name 'The Bilbao estuary as a strategic axis for reconstructing, re-inhabiting and rethinking the metropolitan urban space', it brings together numerous activities to reflect on this iconic area of Bilbao as an opportunity for the city.

"We cannot afford to have unused built-up spaces"

The concept of the domestic and the rehabilitation of hauses as an urban strategy were the focus of a conference this morning in Bilbao. Entitled 'Rehabiting the domestic', it was held in the new ephemeral pavilion 'Mugak/ HABIT[atu]Z', as part of the fourth edition of the Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country, which kicked off its programme in Bilbao on Monday. New scenarios for refurbishment have been proposed there, with design as a fundamental tool for building domestic spaces.

Donostia inaugurates its second ephemeral pavilion as part of the Mugak/ Biennial

The Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/ now has three ephemeral pavilions: 'Argi', located in the Alderdi Eder park in the heart of San Sebastian, was inaugurated today. It is the pavilion designed and built by the Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSA) of the UPV-EHU. It now joins 'Lost forest', located in Sagüés since October, and yesterday's inauguration of 'Mugak/ HABIT[atu]Z', in Bilbao, to take the reflections promoted by the Biennial to the streets.

The Mugak/ Biennial opens its ephemeral pavilion in Bilbao and will display its programme in the city until 23 November

The programme of the Mugak/ Basque Country International Architecture Biennial arrives in Bilbao with the opening of an ephemeral pavilion that will take architecture to the streets. 'Mugak/ HABIT[atu]Z' was inaugurated this morning, and a press conference was held to announce the rest of the activities, all of them free of charge, that Mugak/ will bring to the Biscayan capital until 23 November.

Young Basque Architecture showcases its proposals at the Mugak/ Biennial

From today, young Basque architecture has an exhibition at the Basque Architecture Institute in San Sebastian. The exhibition brings together the works of the candidates selected by the jury of the Peña Ganchegui Prize 2023, inaugurated as part of the fourth edition of the Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/.

Mugak/ opens its central exhibition in San Sebastian with the 'pritzker' Wang Shu

The Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/ opened this morning the central exhibition of this fourth edition. Located at the Basque Institute of Architecture and entitled 'Inhabiting Change', it presents a collective dialogue between renowned figures from the world of architecture and the arts, who have added their original pieces, projects and representations of their practices to the exhibition. It will be open to the public from tomorrow until 25 February 2024.

Mugak/ Biennial will kick off this Wednesday at the Kursaal with the 'pritzker' Wang Shu and the attendance of half a thousand people

This Wednesday, 25 October, the fourth edition of the Basque Country International Architecture Biennial Mugak/ will be inaugurated in the Auditorium Hall of the Kursaal Conference Centre in San Sebastian, where there will be the opportunity to enjoy a master conference by Wang Shu, Pritzker 2012, and Lu Wenyu, from the Chinese studio Amateur Architecture Studio. The event, which will begin at 19:00h and will be presided over by the lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, will bring together half a thousand attendees. Free tickets are still available.
