Mugak/ ends its third edition with Carme Pinós

• The event has served to present the catalogue of this year's main exhibition, ‘Estudio Carme Pinós - Context and Concepts’.

The Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial of the Basque Country has today closed its third edition. On 27 October, under the slogan 'Heritage and Modernity', it began with the architect Carme Pinós as the protagonist. After a month of architecture throughout the three capitals of the Basque Country, today, 30 November, Pinós herself has returned to put the final touch to this edition.

The meeting was held at the Instituto de Arquitectura de Euskadi, where representatives of this year's collaborating entities met. There, the curator of this 2021 edition, José Ángel Medina, wanted to mention their role: "I am pleased to bring together all the active agents to close the Biennial, as it is thanks to them that we are closing an outstanding edition".

Afterwards, the director of the UPV/EHU's Higher Technical School of Architecture, Juan José Arrizabalaga, led a dialogue with the architect to review the work done especially for this edition of Mugak/: "It was a very big effort. I always say that exhibitions have to generate culture and inspiration, so I made a great effort to explain our creative process", said Pinós.

Her exhibition 'Estudio Carme Pinós - Context and Concepts' was the central exhibition this year. The meeting served to present her catalogue, which for Pinós plays an essential role: "While we were making the exhibition I became aware of many things that I hadn't realised, of many concepts that keep repeating themselves and that we find again in each project. But the exhibition is ephemeral, and this catalogue collects all that work".

At the Institute of Architecture, the entities that have made this third edition of Mugak/ possible were also able to chat with the Catalan architect, who, together with all of them, brought the great architecture event in the Basque Country to a close for yet another year. The director of Housing, Land and Architecture of the Basque Government, Pablo García Astrain, concluded the meeting by emphasising that this "is a participatory Biennial; that is how it was conceived from the outset". He wanted to "thank the drive, the participation, the commitment and the faith", predicting a fourth Biennial: "We already have a meeting point and an appointment, which is this one".
