Arantzazu, 70 years

70 years after work began on the Basilica of Our Lady of Arantzazu, this EXHIBITION was created to highlight the role of architecture as the driving force behind what may be the most representative artistic site of the 20th century in the province of Gipuzkoa.

Visitors will have the chance to see the copy of the project plan deposited in the archive of the Gipuzkoa provincial office of COAVN, which contains the building plans, stamped on 25th June 1952 by both the Madrid college of architects and the Gipuzkoa provincial office of COAVN.

As mentioned in the description of the project, this document expands on the preliminary design submitted in 1950 to the competitive process won by architects Luis Laorga and Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza.

The exhibition, setting out from this document but not restricted to it, sets out to offer a new view of the building of the new basilica of Arantzazu in its highly specific historical context.
