Exhibition produced by the Áncora association to commemorate the recent inclusion of the historic centre of San Sebastian in the list of Monument Sites. Based on a solid archival research, it gives updated information about the construction process of the whole area and its evolution in time; it also highlights the role of the different actors involved: promoters and architects whose individual contribution was little known. A large number of photographies, engravings, sketches and drawings are put together with the aim of explaining the cultural values underlying the classification decree of the Old Town and the Port, making them understandable and bringing them closer to the public. The show also addresses the implications derived from the new protected status and encourages a debate among citizens about the preservation requirements and the need for urban evolution. The purpose of the exhibition is not merely documentary, it also attempts to promote a general appreciation of architectural creation and of historical buildings in particular, which are an essential part of contemporary cities.
