Metabolising Nakagin: contexts, challenges and minimal spaces

Few examples of Japanese architecture from the 20th century are more known than the Nakagin Capsule Tower. Yoshihiko Ito will speak to us about the cultural and social context of the “metabolist” movement, of which Nakagin is the most recognized symbol, as well as about the significant difficulty we face to preserve (or metabolize) this iconic building from Tokyo’s post-war era. This talk will be complemented by an interactive workshop aimed at reflecting on minimal spaces available in some historical and cultural contexts.
