'Arantzazu 70 urte' exhibition's opening round table

A round table on the construction of the New Basilica of Arantzazu and its historical and artistic context from different points of view: personal, artistic, management and sociological.

Speakers

María Luisa Sáenz Guerra. Architect and daughter of the architect Sáenz de Oíza. Specialist in town planning, projects and site management, both new build and refurbishment. Patron of the Jorge Oteiza museum foundation since the year 2000. Interested in planning and landscape design, ecological architectural projects, interior design, setting up exhibitions and furniture. She has helped to publicise architecture as a teacher in projects, talks and lectures. In 2020 she curated the Sáenz de Oíza exhibition. Arts and trades at the ICO museum.

Enrique Arenas Laorga is an architect (ETSAM 2002) and doctor cum laude (UPM 2016). Thesis by LUIS LAORGA, ARCHITECT. He has taught drawing, analysis of form, project design and bionics. He has given classes, lectures and workshops in different universities and institutions. He has also presented his work and research in exhibitions and publications internationally. Founding partner in the Arenas Basabe Palacios architecture firm.

Joaquín Lizasoain Urcola trained as an architect at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in Madrid and holds a doctorate in architecture from the University of the Basque Country, where he researched the concept of the wall in Jorge Oteiza's work. His work earned the COAM distinction for architectural work in 2003-2004 and the Madrid city council first prize for private refurbishment in 2003. He has worked for scientific journals including ZARCH, Constelaciones and Museos.es. He currently lectures in the architectural projects area of the school of architecture at the University of Alcalà de Henares.

New Fraternity in Vitoria-Gasteiz: Custodian of the new fraternity Sanctuary of Arantzazu: Posts: Custodian of the fraternity (1991–2000 and 2017-2021)Vicar (2000-2017). Head of the organization of the celebration of the 5th Centenary of the presence of the Franciscans in Arantzazu 2001-2002. Works during his mandate: Construction of the penitential chapel, next to the Basilica: 1993. Renewal of the rook of the entire sanctuary: 1993. Total renewal of the Retreat House: 2000. Construction of the “Gandiaga Topagunea” Centre and the renewal of the public areas in Arantzazu. Roles in the Franciscan province of Arantzazu: Provincial Vicar from 2001-2011; Chairman of the Building Works Committee for the Province from 1991 to the present day..

Moderator

Carmiña Dovale Carrión, Architect. Doctor of Architecture from the University of the Basque Country. She presented her doctoral thesis on Eduardo Chillida in 2017. In 2020 she published the book Geometría del orden (Geometry of Order). She currently teaches at Aldapeta Maria Ikastetxea.
