In the context of a growing housing crisis, marked by real estate speculation, the climate emergency, and the deterioration of the built environment, the Otros Habitares meeting is conceived as a space for critical and proactive reflection on contemporary and future ways of inhabiting, as well as the utopias that inspire and challenge them. With a holistic and multidimensional orientation, and from a transdisciplinary perspective, the event will bring together experiences, projects, and research that explore new ways of understanding, producing, and living the habitable.
Far from conceiving housing as a mere technical or commercial object, Otros Habitares proposes to think of it as a complex assemblage in which material, social, cultural, ecological, and affective dimensions intersect. Within this framework, initiatives driven by public institutions experimenting with models of housing regeneration in vulnerable areas will be presented, alongside civic platforms—such as HouseEurope!—that promote legal and fiscal frameworks aimed at encouraging the sustainable renovation and transformation of the existing built environment.
The event will also accommodate innovations in construction systems, such as Kabian, which explores prefabrication technologies in light timber framing for the production of affordable, sustainable, and inclusive housing. In addition, research critically addressing lifestyles and housing models that shape the ways we inhabit will be presented, as well as experimental proposals that, from art and computational design, challenge speculative logics of housing through algorithms generating impossible residential geometries with a satirical approach.
In this way, Otros Habitares is configured as a meeting space for knowledge, practices, and imaginaries seeking to reconfigure the frameworks through which we think about and produce the habitable.
